The Library Out and About

There are more ways than one to visit the library. The most obvious way, of course, is to stop by one of our six buildings and you can also visit us virtually at spokanelibrary.org. If you’re reading this newsletter then we’re visiting you in your email box. Lately we’ve added non-traditional places to visit the library – we’ve been out and about in neighborhoods. You may have seen our booth at the Garland Street Fair or the South Perry Street Fair. If you see us at a community event please say hello, we’ll have crafts for kids and we’ll tell you about some library services you may not be aware of. You can even bring a friend or neighbor and we’ll sign them up for a library card.

You can find us at these upcoming community events:

static1.squarespace.comSpark Center grand opening – Saturday, August 15, 1 – 5 pm. Spark is at 1214 W. Summit Parkway (in Kendall Yards)

Sasquan, the 73rd World Science Fiction Convention – August 19 – 22. We’ll have a table in the Fan Table area until 6 pm each day.

Night Out Against Crime at East Side – Friday, August 21, 6 – 8 pm. Outside the East Central Community Center

Lower South Hill Block Party – Saturday, September 19th from 1 to 5 on Madison Street between 8th and 9th Avenue (same location as last year).

Sustainable Living Fair – Saturday, September 19 from 11 am – 6 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spokane, 4340 W Fort Wright Drive.

Mobius Notes

If you’ve been to the Downtown Library lately you’ll have noticed a display about our beautiful planet placed throughout the building. This Smithsonian exhibit is being hosted by Mobius Science Center (which is temporarily housed on the 3rd floor of the library) and is filled with gorgeous images and great information. Mobius is open 10 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday but you can see portions of the exhibit anytime the Downtown Library is open.
